Wes Benjamin Aims for Redemption with Doosan Bears in KBO Wild Card

Seoul:Wes Benjamin, who once dashed the hopes of Doosan Bears fans, is now determined to lead them to victory as their ace pitcher. Two years ago, Benjamin was pivotal in eliminating the Bears from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason while playing for the KT Wiz. This year, he hopes to reverse roles and help the Bears succeed in their wild card match against the LG Twins.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Benjamin expressed a strong desire to make amends with the Bears' supporters. Reflecting on his past performance, he stated his intention to deliver positive results for the fans this time around. His impressive season with the Bears, where he contributed to their leading 3.86 ERA, supports his ambition.

Benjamin returned to the KBO with the Bears after a stint in the U.S., initially as a short-term replacement due to Chris Flexen's injury. His performance earned him a full contract, and he continued to excel, posting a 1.85 ERA over his following starts. He remains optimistic about the Bears' chances despite their underdog status and emphasizes the importance of taking each game as it comes.

Gwak Been, another key pitcher, will start the upcoming game, having led the KBO this year with a 2.24 ERA and 197 strikeouts. If a second game is needed, the Bears will decide between starting Benjamin or Choi Min-seok, though Choi has shown signs of fatigue recently.

Benjamin's historical success against the Twins gives the Bears additional hope. Despite their struggles against the Twins this season, Benjamin believes that with their current form, the Bears can defy the odds and achieve victory.

His journey with the Bears has been unexpected but fulfilling, and he credits his day-by-day approach for his success. Benjamin expressed gratitude towards the Bears organization and his teammates for their support and smooth transition into the team.
