YouTuber Charged for Installing Spy Cameras at Polling Stations Across South Korea

Seoul - A YouTuber has been formally indicted for installing hidden cameras at several early voting stations across South Korea prior to the recent parliamentary elections.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 48-year-old man placed cameras, which he disguised as communication devices, in 40 different locations including Seoul, Incheon, Busan, and seven other cities. This incident occurred in the weeks leading up to the elections on April 10.

The investigations revealed that the individual recorded conversations between government employees at some polling stations on five separate occasions using the hidden cameras. He was indicted under physical detention on charges of trespassing and violating the Communications Secret Protection Act. Initially, during police questioning, he claimed his intention was to monitor potential manipulations of early voting results by the National Election Commission. Authorities are currently investigating two other individuals believed to be accomplices and are considering charges against nine additional suspects.
