19 IP Addresses Linked to Hacking Attacks on Korean Banks

Seoul:The country's financial watchdog has identified 19 IP addresses from the United States, Japan, and 10 other countries that were used in recent hacking attacks on Korean financial institutions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, these attacks have affected several financial companies, including Hana Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Shinhan Bank, leading to leaks of customer information and raising concerns about further data breaches.

The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has pinpointed the IP addresses in 12 countries believed to have been used for AI agent-supported hacking. In response, local financial firms are urgently reviewing their security systems to prevent further incidents.

Over the weekend, President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into these attacks. On Thursday, Shinhan Bank reported that personal information of about 25,000 customers, such as names, phone numbers, and annual incomes, had been compromised by hackers utilizing advanced AI tools.

While Hana Bank disclosed that the personal information of 89 customers was leaked, Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup Bank managed to prevent unauthorized access, thus avoiding any data leaks.
