Seoul:North Korea warned on Tuesday of an "immediate and powerful counteraction" should South Korea intrude even "a millimeter" into its territory. This statement follows Seoul's measures in response to a recent land mine explosion at the inter-Korean border, which South Korea attributes to Pyongyang.
According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea's foreign ministry released the warning a day after South Korea's military concluded that mines planted by North Korea caused the September 21 explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The blast resulted in critical injuries to two South Korean soldiers.
On the same day, the South Korean military, in coordination with the U.N. Command (UNC), conducted a mine-clearing operation at the blast site. North Korea dismissed this operation, stating it had no reason to heed what it called a "farce" by the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The North's ministry emphasized that any breach of its territory by South Korea would provoke a robust response from its border guard forces.
