28 IP Addresses Identified in Hacking Attacks on Korean Banks

Seoul:The country's financial watchdog has identified 28 internet protocol (IP) addresses from the United States, Japan, and 10 other countries linked to recent hacking attacks on Korean financial institutions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, several banks, including Hana Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, and Shinhan Bank, suffered consecutive customer information leaks last week, raising concerns of further data breaches. The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) has identified IP addresses in 12 countries as potential sources of the AI-driven hacks, though some addresses remain untraceable.

In response, local financial firms are urgently reviewing their security systems to prevent additional hacking attempts. Over the weekend, President Lee Jae Myung called for a thorough investigation into these cyberattacks.

On Thursday, Shinhan Bank reported that personal information of about 25,000 customers, such as names, phone numbers, and annual income, was compromised, with hackers employing advanced AI tools. Meanwhile, Hana Bank confirmed a leak involving 89 customers, and although Woori Bank and NH Nonghyup Bank were targeted, they successfully blocked unauthorized access, preventing any data loss.
