Hyundai Motor Reports Decline in June Sales Due to Weak Domestic Demand

SEOUL — Hyundai Motor Co., the largest automaker in South Korea, reported a 6.3 percent decline in global vehicle sales for June 2024, driven primarily by reduced demand within the domestic market.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor stated that it sold a total of 375,167 vehicles in June, down from the previous year, with domestic sales witnessing a significant drop of 14.8 percent to 59,804 units. Overseas sales also decreased by 4.4 percent to 291,712 units. Notably, sales of sedans like the Grandeur and Sonata in the domestic market numbered 16,513 units, while SUV sales totaled 19,056 units. Additionally, the company's luxury brand Genesis sold 12,104 vehicles. Overall, Hyundai's vehicle sales for the first half of the year totaled 2.06 million, marking a slight decrease from 2023. The company announced plans to launch the new Casper Electric sub-compact SUV and expand its Ioniq electric vehicle lineup in the latter half of the year to boost its electric car sales.
