Heavy Rain Triggers Widespread Alerts in Seoul and Southern Regions

SEOUL - Prolonged rainfall has drenched the capital and southern parts of South Korea, with more precipitation expected, prompting the issuance of a heavy rain advisory.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the regions of greater Seoul, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang are bracing for continued downpours ranging from 30 to 80 millimeters of rain through Wednesday. A heavy rain advisory, effective from 9 a.m., indicates expected rainfall to exceed 60 mm in three hours or 110 mm in 12 hours. In response, the interior ministry has activated Level 1 operations at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters as of 7:30 a.m. and raised the alert status to "caution."

Interior Minister Lee Sang-min has mandated precautionary measures, including the barricading of flood-prone areas such as streams, underpasses, and parking lots, and the relocation of residents from vulnerable locations, particularly those in semi-basement homes. Emergency alerts and updates are being communicated swiftly to ensure public safety amidst the inclement weather.
