South Korea’s Daily Foreign Exchange Trading Dips in Q2

SEOUL — Daily foreign exchange (FX) trading volumes in South Korea have decreased by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of the year, reflecting a decline in both spot and derivatives transactions. This drop interrupts the steady flow of FX trading, prompting a closer look at market dynamics.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the average daily FX turnover was $67.78 billion during the April-June period, down from $69.4 billion in the previous quarter. The central bank attributed the decrease to a reduction in trading volumes across both spot transactions and FX derivatives. Specifically, the daily average turnover on the spot FX market fell 5.7 percent to $24.62 billion, while FX derivatives experienced a slight decrease of 0.3 percent to $43.17 billion.
