Rival Parties Form Joint Body to Address Livelihood Issues

SEOUL: The ruling People Power Party (PPP) and the main opposition Democratic Party in South Korea have launched a joint consultative body to expedite the passage of legislation focused on enhancing citizens' livelihoods. This initiative marks a significant step towards bipartisan cooperation on pressing national issues. According to Yonhap News Agency, the creation of this consultative body follows an agreement made between PPP leader Han Dong-hoon and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung during their inaugural official meeting last month. The joint body aims to prioritize and expedite legislation related to economic growth, particularly through advancements in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. Additionally, it will address concerns over the nation's declining birth rate and consider the potential elimination of the financial investment income tax. Rep. Kim Sang-hoon, the PPP's chief policymaker, emphasized the importance of collaboration, acknowledging that while disagreements may ar ise, it is essential for both parties to fulfill their responsibilities by passing important livelihood-related bills. This move is seen as an effort to bridge political divides and focus on legislative measures that directly impact the well-being of the South Korean populace.
