Seoul: The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Tuesday warned of a stepped-up action against the arrival of a U.S. aircraft carrier in South Korea, claiming that the U.S. move highlights the North's urgency to bolstering its nuclear forces.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Yo-jong made the condemnation as USS Carl Vinson, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and flagship of Carrier Strike Group One, arrived at a key naval base in the southeastern city of Busan on Sunday for a scheduled port visit. She said Washington's continued deployment of strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula highlighted North Korea's urgency to bolster its nuclear war deterrent, according to the North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
"If the U.S. continues to renew its records in the anti-DPRK military demonstration, the DPRK will be naturally compelled to renew its records in the exercise of strategic deterrence," Kim said in a statement carried by the KCNA. DPRK stands for North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
"The DPRK is also planning to carefully examine the option for increasing the actions threatening the security of the enemy at the strategic level," Kim warned.
