Opposition Leader Lee Jae-myung to Visit Sancheong to Offer Condolences to Wildfire Victims

Sancheong: The leader of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lee Jae-myung, is set to visit Sancheong to offer his condolences to the victims of devastating wildfires that have swept through the southeastern county, officials announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to visit a joint memorial altar in Sancheong, located in South Gyeongsang Province, approximately 250 kilometers southeast of Seoul. During his visit, he will express his condolences to the bereaved families affected by the wildfires.

Earlier, during a Supreme Council meeting, Lee extended his sympathies, stating, "I extend my condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones overnight, as well as to the displaced people who lost their homes and the residents who are gathered in shelters amid fear and anxiety."

The wildfires in Sancheong, which began last Friday, have resulted in the tragic loss of four lives and destruction of multiple facilities. The fires have also spread to the neighboring Hadong County, leaving nearly 600 people displaced in both counties.
