Appeals Court Overturns Opposition Leader’s Suspended Prison Term

Seoul: An appeals court on Wednesday overturned a suspended prison term against opposition leader Lee Jae-myung for lying as a presidential candidate during the 2022 election, acquitting him of the charge. The decision by the Seoul High Court removes a major legal hurdle for Lee ahead of his anticipated run in the next presidential election.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the leader of the main opposition Democratic Party has been considered the presidential front-runner, particularly in the event the Constitutional Court upholds the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, triggering a snap presidential election within 60 days.
