Hwaseong: A new African swine fever (ASF) case has been reported at a pig farm in Hwaseong, south of Seoul. This marks the 16th ASF infection in South Korea this season.
According to Yonhap News Agency, efforts to contain the outbreak include an epidemiological investigation by city officials in Hwaseong, alongside restricting access to the affected site. All pigs at the farm will be culled as part of the containment measures. The city also plans to enhance preventive measures across all 87 pig farms within the municipality to prevent further infections.
The recent ASF case follows another infection reported on February 8 at a different pig farm in Hwaseong, highlighting ongoing challenges in managing the disease in the region.
In addition to the swine fever cases, two new instances of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been confirmed. These cases were detected at an egg farm in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang Province, and a duck farm in Gurye, South Jeolla Province, as reported by agricultural authorities. This brings the total number of confirmed avian influenza cases this season to 46.
