Seoul:A special counsel team has uncovered that six additional local election commissions have falsely reported voter turnout data during the June 3 local elections, increasing the total number of implicated commissions to 36.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Special Counsel Lee Tae-han's team has been conducting an investigation into the National Election Commission (NEC) following reports of unprecedented ballot shortages during the elections. These shortages resulted in some voters being unable to cast their votes.
In a recent press release, Lee's team detailed that they identified the six additional commissions through searches, analysis of seized items, and questioning of officials. The implicated local commissions include those in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province; Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province; two districts in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province; Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province; and Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
