Ruling Party and Government Plan Special Envoys to Secure Crude Oil Amid Strait of Hormuz Closure

Seoul: The ruling Democratic Party and the government have reached an agreement to pursue the dispatch of special envoys to Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Algeria in a bid to secure crude oil supplies. This initiative comes as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route, remains effectively closed due to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. According to Yonhap News Agency, Democratic Party lawmakers and government officials are exploring options to secure crude oil through discussions with countries offering alternative routes. Rep. Ahn Do-geol addressed reporters following a consultative meeting at the National Assembly, highlighting the collaborative efforts being undertaken. The officials emphasized the importance of diplomatic measures to ensure a stable supply of crude oil, which includes the dispatch of envoys to the targeted Middle Eastern countries. Additionally, there are plans to send five Korean-flagged vessels to the Saudi Arabian city of Yanbu, located on the Red Sea coast, to facilitate the supply chain.
