Seoul:Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants has topped the South Korean baseball league in hits for the third consecutive season, setting a new record with 211 hits. This achievement came as Reyes fended off strong competition in the final stretch of the season.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Venezuelan switch hitter collected four hits, including a solo home run, against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul during his last regular-season game on Monday. Reyes had previously set the record with 202 hits in 2024 and led the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) with 187 hits last year.
This season, Choi Won-jun of the KT Wiz initially reached 203 hits last Wednesday, but Reyes surpassed him by the season's end, making him the first foreign hitter in KBO history to lead in hits for three consecutive seasons. Choi concluded with 208 hits after achieving three hits in his final game.
Reyes and Choi both played on Monday night, captivating fans with their performances at separate venues. Choi, playing against the Samsung Lions at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, managed a double and two singles during his game. Meanwhile, in Seoul, Reyes maintained his lead over Choi. He started with a single to shallow center, followed by another single from the right side, and then hit a solo home run. Reyes completed his record-setting performance with his 211th hit in the eighth inning, departing to applause from both teams' fans.
