Tunis:President Lee Jae Myung stressed the importance of South Korea's alliance with the United States during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, while acknowledging that differences between countries can arise.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized that diplomacy should prioritize safeguarding national interests and avoid any submissive stances. His comments come amid ongoing restrictions on intelligence sharing by Washington, following remarks by South Korea's unification minister about North Korea's Kusong being a site for uranium enrichment, which the U.S. claims was a unilateral disclosure of shared intelligence.
Lee reiterated that South Korea's diplomacy is rooted in pragmatism, with its national interests being paramount. He also highlighted that the South Korea-U.S. alliance is crucial and should be further advanced, while any arising differences should be debated and coordinated to remain manageable.
