Daegu:The presidential office has established a task force to organize a potential golf outing between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump later this year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cheong Wa Dae formed the team soon after Lee's trip to the United States and Mexico last month, where he met with Trump in New York. During their discussions, Trump directed White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to coordinate a golf meeting with Lee.
Although the golf session has not been finalized, there is speculation that it might occur alongside the Group of 20 summit scheduled in Miami in December. A Cheong Wa Dae official described the outing as not merely a casual round but a diplomatic event, emphasizing the need for careful preparation due to its significance.
President Lee has recently faced criticism from the main opposition People Power Party for playing golf on Saturday when a supermarket ceiling collapsed in Daegu, resulting in numerous injuries. Despite this, Cheong Wa Dae confirmed Lee's involvement in the golf outing, noting that he issued orders for a thorough rescue operation from the golf course.
