Prosecutors Indict Independent Lawmaker for Alleged Sexual Harassment

Seoul:Prosecutors have indicted Rep. Jang Kyung-tae without physical detention on allegations of sexually harassing a female aide of another lawmaker.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Jang, who became an independent after leaving the ruling Democratic Party in March due to the scandal, is accused of the harassment incident which allegedly took place at a restaurant in western Seoul in October 2024. The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors Office has also charged him with partially exposing the aide's identity, contravening the sexual violence punishment law.

The indictment follows a complaint filed by the aide with the police last year. In March, a police committee, convened at Jang's request, recommended that he be referred to prosecutors regarding the allegations. The prosecution decided to indict Jang, who denies the allegations, after questioning those involved and reviewing evidence, including video footage of the incident.
