Koo Kyo-hwan and Kim Yoon-seok Reunite in Korean Mystery Thriller ‘White Blast’

Seoul:Actors Koo Kyo-hwan and Kim Yoon-seok are set to appear as a young rail worker and a retiring station master in the upcoming Korean film "White Blast," marking their reunion five years after the 2021 action thriller "Escape from Mogadishu."

According to Yonhap News Agency, the film is set in a rural train station just days before Christmas and follows veteran station master Gap-soo (Kim) as he welcomes his young successor Hyun-taek (Koo), who arrives late due to a snowstorm. On Hyun-taek's first day, they encounter a corpse on a railway track, leading to a series of mysterious events involving local police detective Seong-bok and his colleague Sun-woo.

Both actors expressed their immediate attraction to the film's scenario. Kim Yoon-seok praised the script's power and lack of superfluity, while Koo Kyo-hwan highlighted the mix of black comedy and mystery as a unique aspect that would captivate audiences. Kim noted that the film's charm lies in its portrayal of common characters, providing moments of humor and insight into the fragility of the human mind.

Director Hong Eui-jeong, returning with this film six years after her debut feature, emphasized the narrative's dynamic nature and the chemistry between the leads. Describing Kim as a genius and Koo as a "weirdo" in a positive sense, Hong appreciated the unexpected and vibrant interactions that arose during filming.

The actors encouraged audiences to watch the film with minimal prior knowledge, suggesting that viewers will find the story more intriguing. Koo mentioned that, unlike films with pronounced plot twists, "White Blast" offers a phenomenon for audiences to interpret, allowing them to become the main characters of their own stories.

"White Blast" is scheduled for release on November 18.
