Seoul:Over the years, South Korea and the United States have taken significant steps to strengthen their military and diplomatic ties, with several key agreements and collaborations marking their partnership.
According to Yonhap News Agency, one of the earliest significant collaborations was the launch of the Combined Forces Command by South Korea and the United States in 1978. This move was aimed at enhancing military cooperation between the two nations.
In subsequent years, the partnership expanded beyond military cooperation. For instance, in 2006, both countries agreed to work together for progress in the six-way talks concerning North Korea's nuclear program, maintaining a shared stance that North Korea should not be recognized as a nuclear power. Further solidifying their military collaboration, in 2017, South Korea and the United States agreed to completely remove the limit on the payload of South Korean ballistic missiles, a decision reflecting their aligned strategic interests.
Through these and other initiatives, South Korea and the United States have continued to reinforce their alliance, addressing both regional security concerns and broader geopolitical challenges.
