Seoul:Trading of KOSPI stocks was suspended after a significant sell-off in tech shares prompted the activation of a circuit breaker by South Korea's bourse operator on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, trading of KOSPI-listed shares was halted for 20 minutes starting at 903, as the index fell more than 8 percent from the previous session's close. This decline followed a tech sell-off on Wall Street, driven by concerns that the Democrats' sweeping victory in the U.S. midterms could slow the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
This event marks the tenth instance this year that the Korea Exchange (KRX) has activated a circuit breaker due to market conditions.
