Actor Lee Sun-kyun to be Questioned by Incheon Police on Drug Use Allegations

INCHEON — Actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," is scheduled to be questioned by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency on Saturday regarding suspicions of illegal drug use.

According to a new release by Yonhap News Agency, Lee has been booked for investigation on charges that he violated the Narcotics Control Act. When he appears for questioning, the police intend to conduct a drug test to ascertain whether he used illegal drugs, their frequency, and types.

On Friday, an overseas travel ban was imposed on Lee after confirming that he is currently in South Korea. The actor is suspected of using marijuana and other illegal drugs at a residence in Seoul's Gangnam district. The drugs were allegedly provided by a hostess working at a high-end bar in the same district, and the incidents have reportedly occurred multiple times since early this year.

The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's probe into Lee was initiated following a tipoff last month concerning the illegal circulation of drugs in Gangnam nightclubs. Eight people have been booked in relation to this case, including Lee, the hostess, a third-generation member of a conglomerate family, and a would-be entertainer.

Separately, G-Dragon of K-pop group BIGBANG, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, has also been booked for suspected drug use. Through a statement released by his lawyer on Friday, Kwon denied the allegations and expressed his intention to cooperate with the police investigation.
