APEC 2025 Security: 3,900 Troops to Safeguard Economic Summit

Gyeongju: Thousands of troops will be deployed for security operations during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering this week, the military said Tuesday. Some 3,900 military personnel will be mobilized for the operations around the country, spanning land, air, and sea, as APEC member delegations are set to gather for the summit in Gyeongju, according to the Army’s 2nd Operations Command.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the operations will involve various Army units and the Air Force’s 5th Air Mobility Wing, based in Gimhae International Airport in the southern city of Busan, where many of the delegations are expected to arrive from. “We will carry out watertight security operations with other agencies,” an official at the command said.

Various APEC gatherings are scheduled to take place in Gyeongju this week before the main APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on Friday and Saturday.
