Four Missing In S.Korea’s Fishing Boat Overturn Accident

SEOUL, Oct 18 (NNN-YONHAP) – Four sailors went missing, after a fishing boat overturned, in waters near South Korea’s southern resort island of Jeju, the country’s coast guard was quoted as saying.

The 29-tonne fishing vessel, carrying two South Korean and two foreign crew members, went out of contact at about 2:40 a.m. local time, today (1740 GMT Monday).

Rescuers arrived at the scene in waters some 6.8 km south-west of Mara Island, just south of Jeju Island, around 5:08 a.m. local time (2008 GMT Monday) and found the fishing boat capsized.

No crewman had been found in eight rounds of underwater search, due to the bad weather condition, that discouraged rescuers from going inside the boat.

The coast guard sent a patrol ship and an aircraft to the scene, for search operations, joined by navy ships and private fishing boats.
