Hanwha Aerospace’s Australian Subsidiary Secures $2.4 Billion Deal for Infantry Vehicles

Seoul - Hanwha Defense Australia, a subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace, has finalized a deal worth 3.1 trillion won (approximately US$2.4 billion) to supply 129 Redback infantry fighting vehicles to Australia. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) confirmed the contract was signed with Australia's Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group in Melbourne.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Selected in July as the preferred bidder for the Land 400 Phase 3 program, Hanwha Defense Australia will replace the Australian Army's M113 armored personnel carriers. The production of these new vehicles will take place in Avalon, Greater Geelong, with fleet deliveries expected between 2027 and 2028.

This deal represents Hanwha's second major export of ground-based military equipment to Australia, following a contract in December 2021 for K9 self-propelled howitzers, as noted by DAPA.
