Among these, the initial trade cooperation agreement between South Korea and Japan in 1949 stands out, representing the first official document signed between the two nations post-Japanese colonial rule. Other notable events include the election of Gen. Park Chung-hee as president in 1963, the inauguration of the Seoul Paralympic Games in 1988, and several key diplomatic discussions and agreements in the 2000s.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yonhap News, the 1949 agreement between South Korea and Japan laid a foundational stone for future relations, which were normalized 16 years later in 1965.
