Accra:A significant data breach has occurred at Hollys, a local coffee chain, resulting in the leakage of 2.76 million pieces of customer information. This breach involved personal details such as dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, and emails, which were accessed by hackers between September 3 and October 7. Hollys detected the unauthorized access during this period and has communicated the incident via a notice on its website.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the compromised data originated from temporary files used during a past membership service upgrade, rather than from the current active customer database. The company has expressed regret over the incident, apologizing to customers and committing to efforts aimed at protecting their data and reducing any potential harm from the breach.
This cybersecurity breach at Hollys is part of a broader trend of recent data leaks affecting local companies. Earlier this month, a series of hacking attacks led to approximately 100,000 cases of leaked personal information across 16 financial institutions, as reported by financial regulators.
Hollys operates about 530 outlets nationwide and is a subsidiary of KG Group, a conglomerate with diverse business interests, including steelmaking, car manufacturing, and logistics.
