‘K-Content Expo in Spain’ to also promote Hallyu in Europe

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Oct. 3 said it is jointly hosting “K-Content Expo in Spain” with the Korea Creative Content Agency.

The event runs from Oct. 4-7 at the hotel Novotel Madrid Center in the Spanish capital.

Thirty-one Korean content companies and 40 foreign buyers are participating in the event. The programs include a content exchange seminar, content investment pitch, networking event, individual export consultations and joint training with onsite companies.

On Oct. 4, the seminar will discuss intellectual property rights before and after COVID-19, changes and trends in the platform industry, and prospects for new media.

The same day will see the content investment pitch have 17 registered businesses introduce themselves and their products to foreign buyers.

The networking event on Oct. 5 will be held as a reception to form a network of domestic and overseas companies.

The individual export meetings from Oct. 5-6 will have Korean companies hold consultations with European buyers from countries like Spain, France, Germany and the U.K. Support services like interpretation and assistance with the signing of memorandums of understanding will also be available upon request.

On the final day of the event on Oct. 7, Korean companies will visit Spanish content businesses in the area. The private Spanish broadcaster Antena3 and video game developer Tequila Works, both of which handles video content distribution, will identify trends in the Spanish content industry and seek a network and business cooperation between companies of Korea and Spain.

Since 2016, K-Content Expo is centered on B2B in the content sector and has promoted Hallyu content to major emerging and potential markets and supports the export of domestic companies.

Targeting the Southeast Asian market, Singapore hosted a similar expo in July while the one in Spain was planned to focus on Europe given its emerging market for Hallyu.

Shin Yongshik, director of the ministry’s Hallyu Content Cooperation Division said, “Through this event, we hope to secure the sustainability of Hallyu by spreading it to Europe including Spain and promoting the diversification of export markets,” adding, “We will expand and run the K-Content Expo to boost the export competitiveness of domestic content companies and lead the overseas expansion of Hallyu.
