Seoul:KB Kookmin Bank has experienced a data breach involving the personal information of over 100 customers. This incident follows a similar breach at Shinhan Bank, raising concerns about the security of customer data across the banking sector.
According to Yonhap News Agency, On Thursday, Shinhan Bank disclosed that personal details of approximately 25,000 customers, including annual income, names, and phone numbers, had been compromised. The hackers, suspected to be operating from overseas, reportedly used advanced AI tools to carry out these attacks.
Insiders suggest that Shinhan Bank's breach may have resulted from AI-driven attacks targeting vulnerable online platforms. This highlights the importance for financial institutions to enhance security measures and prevent unauthorized access.
The financial industry as a whole is perceived to be at risk from AI-assisted cyberattacks. Consequently, there is an urgent call for banks to perform thorough security checks to identify and fix potential vulnerabilities.
