KCTU Launches Indefinite Strike Demanding President Yoon’s Resignation.

Seoul: The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), one of South Korea’s most influential labor organizations, has announced an indefinite strike, demanding the resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol. This action comes in response to the President’s recent declaration of martial law, which has sparked widespread controversy and unrest.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a representative from KCTU stated at a press conference held at the group’s headquarters that the union would unite with the public to push for President Yoon’s immediate resignation. The official emphasized that the general strike by the KCTU is intended to address the issues of inequality and polarization and aims to usher in a new era that upholds labor rights and values.

The decision to strike will be made independently by each union under the KCTU umbrella. In the greater Seoul area, union members gathered at Gwanghwamun Square to express their opposition to the current administration. Meanwhile, members in other regions plan to conve
ne at locations designated by their respective regional chapters.

The situation escalated after President Yoon declared emergency martial law late Tuesday night, citing the opposition parties’ alleged “anti-state” activities as reasons for governmental paralysis. However, the martial law was lifted six hours later following a decisive vote by the National Assembly to terminate it.
