Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended a concert marking International Women's Day with his wife and daughter Ju-ae, acknowledging the significant role women play in national development, state media reported Monday. Kim was accompanied by his wife, Ri Sol-ju, and their teenage daughter at the event held at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, which was attended by female party and government officials, workers, and members of foreign missions, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the state media did not disclose the daughter's name, who is widely believed to be groomed as Kim's successor, referring to her as his "beloved daughter." Images showed Ju-ae seated between her parents during the concert, with Kim holding her hand throughout the performance.
North Korea observes International Women's Day as a national holiday, organizing public events to foster national unity, although the state of women's rights in the country is considered inadequate. In his speech at the concert, Kim expressed "special thanks to all the Korean women for their unusual and unknown efforts," describing them as "the strong pillars of the revolution."
Kim emphasized that when women continue to uphold traditions of patriotism by fulfilling their crucial responsibilities, society will become stronger and more prosperous. He highlighted the irreplaceable roles and responsibilities of women in the advancement of North Korea's socialism, stating that their contributions are vital for the nation's future prosperity and strength.
Images from state media also captured key female figures in attendance, including Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui, Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of the leader, and renowned news anchor Ri Chun-hee.
