Pyongyang - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un participated in events commemorating the 71st anniversary of the Korean War armistice, which concluded the 1950-53 conflict, according to state media reports on Sunday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim attended a meeting with war veterans who had served in prominent roles within North Korea’s ruling party, government, and military. The gathering took place at the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, emphasizing the regime's ongoing veneration of its war veterans. While Kim did not deliver a speech, Ri Il-hwan, a secretary of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party, addressed the attendees, urging the younger generation to honor the veterans' legacy and sacrifices.
The commemoration included multimedia presentations celebrating the wartime efforts and spirit of the veterans, which were followed by an evening filled with a parade, fireworks, and a performance. These celebrations underscore North Korea's narrative of the war as a pivotal moment of national triumph and valor.
Last year, North Korea had underscored its international alliances during the armistice anniversary by hosting military and political leaders from Russia and China, reflecting Pyongyang's strategic ties with Beijing and Moscow against the backdrop of intensifying security cooperation among Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo.
