Korean publishing sector to attend Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany

Domestic publishers will showcase Korean books and electronic publication content at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the world’s largest event of its kind, in Frankfurt, Germany.

The 74th edition of the fair is slated to run from Oct. 19-23.

Around 3,900 publishers from around the world will participate at this year’s event. The Korean Publishers Association (KPA) will host a collective exhibition space for Korean publishers dubbed “House of Thought” (unofficial translation) for the first time in three years. The association said the “house” part of the title contains the meaning “recharge” and that it hopes every visitor can have deeper thoughts by reading books at a comfortable place.

Twenty-four publishers are participating at the joint space, with NE Neungyule, Darakwon, Bookgoodcome, YeaRimDang, Literature Translation Institute of Korea and others directly running booths and seeking opportunities for international publishing exchange.

“By participating in the book fair, we are trying to lay the foundation for the Korean publishing sector to advance to new markets,” the KPA said.

The Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea is running a center on Korean

e-publications and showcasing domestic e-publication content and technology such as multimedia e-books and mobile apps. During the fair, consultations on publication exports are scheduled with overseas publishers.

At this year’s fair, the guest country of honor Spain is showcasing its vast literary works under the theme “Spilling Creativity” through novels, poems, children’s literature, essays, comics and audio books, including literature from the country’s Catalan, Galician and Basque regions.
