Lee and Thai Prime Minister Discuss Cooperation Against Transnational Crimes

Gyeongju: President Lee Jae Myung and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened a summit on Thursday to explore joint efforts in combating transnational crimes, with a focus on online scams, as reported by the presidential office. The meeting took place in Gyeongju in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, following a phone call between the two leaders earlier this month.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during their discussions, Lee and Charnvirakul exchanged views on addressing cross-border crimes, particularly in light of increasing reports of crimes targeting South Koreans in Cambodia. The leaders acknowledged the necessity of regional and international collaboration to tackle transnational crimes like online scams, which are beyond the capacity of a single nation to handle effectively.

The summit also saw an agreement to enhance the bilateral strategic partnership and to bolster cooperation across various sectors. These include the defense industry, digital finance, and infrastructure construction, as both leaders aim to strengthen ties between their countries.
