Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Heartbeat’ Set for Netflix Debut Next Week

Seoul:South Korean director Lee Chang-dong's short film "Heartbeat" is scheduled for release on Netflix next week, just days before the launch of his Venice-winning film "Possible Love," as announced by the streaming platform on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 2022 short film focuses on a young boy dealing with his mother's depression and his father's labor strikes, which take place atop a tower crane. This marks Lee's first foray into short films.

The 28-minute film initially premiered at the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival and did not have a theatrical release. It features performances by actors Jeon Do-yeon and Sul Kyung-gu, who also starred in Lee's critically acclaimed feature "Possible Love."

Lee directed "Heartbeat" as part of a project initiated by the World Health Organization and the Beijing Contemporary Art Foundation. The initiative invited directors globally to create films centered on the theme of depression.

"Heartbeat" will become available on Netflix starting Monday, while "Possible Love" is slated for release on Friday.
