Daejeon: President Lee Jae Myung announced that the government will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of a significant fire at a car parts plant in Daejeon and develop measures to prevent future incidents. The fire, which started on Friday afternoon, resulted in 14 deaths and injuries to 60 individuals, including two firefighters, as reported by fire authorities.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee made his commitment during a visit to the site, where he assessed relief efforts and met with victims and bereaved families. On the social media platform X, Lee stated that the government will carry out a comprehensive investigation and establish fundamental measures to avert similar tragedies in the future.
President Lee promised comprehensive support for the victims and their families, ensuring that an on-site chief would be appointed to maintain an emergency response system. He emphasized the importance of involving bereaved families in the investigation process and considering their perspectives.
Additionally, Lee mentioned that the government would address urgent expenses and later seek reimbursement to ensure timely support for affected individuals. During his site visit, he received briefings on casualties and disaster response measures. Lee also visited a nearby hospital to meet with injured individuals and instructed authorities to regularly update families on the fire's cause and relief efforts.
