PARIS — South Korean archer Lee Woo-seok clinched a bronze medal in the men’s individual archery event at the Paris Olympics, marking his second medal of the games after contributing to South Korea’s men’s team gold.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee triumphed over Germany's Florian Unruh with a decisive 6-0 set score during the bronze medal match held at Invalides in Paris. This victory followed a semifinal loss to fellow South Korean archer Kim Woo-jin earlier in the day. In archery’s individual format, competitors aim to be the first to reach six points, gaining two points for each set they win, with each archer shooting three arrows per set.
Lee demonstrated his skill and composure throughout the match against Unruh. He won the first set 29-27, capitalizing on a less-than-perfect third arrow from Unruh. He continued his strong performance, scoring 29-28 in the next two sets, thereby securing the match without losing a single set.
Reflecting on his performance, Lee shared his satisfaction and joy, noting his mindset shift after the semifinals loss. "I had such a great time. I was so happy," Lee remarked. "I lost in the semifinals even after giving everything I had. For the bronze medal match, I just wanted to enjoy the moment. I was not nervous at all, and I think that's why I was able to win."
Lee’s bronze adds to a successful Olympic campaign for South Korea in archery, further cementing the country's reputation as a powerhouse in the sport.
