Hanoi: South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solutions Ltd. announced its partnership with Japan's Honda Motor Co. to enhance their presence in Vietnam's electric motorcycle market. The collaboration aims to establish a significant infrastructure for electric motorcycles in Hanoi.
According to Yonhap News Agency, LG Energy Solutions has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Honda and the Hanoi city government. This agreement focuses on the installation of battery swapping systems (BSS) for electric motorcycles within the city. The BSS infrastructure allows electric motorcycle riders to exchange their depleted batteries for fully charged ones, enabling instant battery swaps instead of lengthy recharging times.
The agreement outlines the installation of approximately 50 BSS stations throughout Hanoi and the deployment of around 500 electric motorcycles. This initiative is set to commence in the third quarter. The collaboration reflects a strategic move to test and refine the e-motorcycle operations in the region.
In 2022, Vietnam's government declared its intention to prohibit fossil-fuel-powered motorbikes in Hanoi as part of its effort to mitigate air pollution. This partnership between LG Energy Solution and Honda aligns with the government's environmental goals and marks a significant step towards a sustainable future in urban transportation.
