Pyeongtaek: Cho Kuk, leader of the minor Rebuilding Korea Party, announced his intention to step down as party leader after experiencing a significant defeat in a recent parliamentary by-election held alongside the June 3 local elections. Cho shared his decision in a Facebook post, where he expressed regret for not paving a new path of hope for the dedicated party members who supported the Rebuilding Korea Party during this election cycle. He accepted full responsibility for the disappointing results.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the parliamentary by-elections included a notable contest in the Pyeongtaek-B constituency in Gyeonggi Province, where Cho Kuk finished third. He was outpaced by Yu Eui-dong of the main opposition People Power Party and Kim Yong-nam of the ruling Democratic Party. Furthermore, the Rebuilding Korea Party did not secure any of the 16 critical mayoral and gubernatorial positions or the 14 parliamentary seats that were up for grabs during the local elections.
