Sofia: North Korea’s new ambassador to Bulgaria has officially assumed office, as reported by the North’s state media on Sunday. North Korean Ambassador to Bulgaria, Ri Hak-mu, presented a copy of his credentials to Bulgaria’s President, Rumen Radev, last Thursday, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to Yonhap News Agency, Ri Hak-mu succeeds Ambassador Cha Kon-il, who vacated the position in April last year. Prior to this, there had been no official announcements from North Korean state media regarding Cha’s replacement.
Since 2023, North Korea has reportedly closed its diplomatic missions in several countries, including Angola, Nepal, Bangladesh, Spain, and Uganda. This move marks a significant restructuring of North Korea’s diplomatic engagements worldwide.
