N. Korea’s Kim Jong-un Hails ‘Indestructible’ Ties with Russia as Comrades-in-Arms

Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has described the relationship between North Korea and Russia as an “indestructible, genuine” alliance of comrades-in-arms. This statement was reported by state media on Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim conveyed these sentiments in a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Russia Day, celebrated on June 12. This day commemorates the 1990 adoption of the declaration of state sovereignty by the Russian parliament.

Kim highlighted that the friendship between North Korea and Russia has been strengthened through their military collaboration during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He emphasized the deep bond formed between the two nations’ troops, describing it as an exemplary model of a genuine alliance.

The North Korean leader affirmed his country’s commitment to developing bilateral ties with Russia, expressing a determination to support Russia and its people. His message was delivered ahead of the first anniversary of a mutual defense treaty signed by Kim and Putin on June 19 last year. The treaty promises immediate military assistance if either nation faces an attack.

Since October, North Korea has deployed approximately 15,000 troops to Russia to assist in its military campaign against Ukraine. The troop deployment was officially acknowledged by North Korea for the first time in April.
