Nine More U.S. Soldiers, Eight Civilians In S. Korea Test Positive For COVID-19

SEOUL – Nine more U.S. soldiers and eight relevant civilians in South Korea, tested positive for COVID-19, the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) said today.

The USFK said in a statement that, 17 USFK-affiliated individuals were confirmed with the COVID-19, between Aug 31 and Sept 6.

One service member at Camp Hovey, one at Camp Casey, two family members and one South Korean national contractor at the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, and one South Korean national employee, at the U.S. Army Garrison in Yongsan, tested positive between Sept 1 and 6, after developing symptoms.

Two service members at the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, one service member, one U.S. Department of Defence (DoD) civilian, and two family members at the U.S. Army Garrison in Daegu, and one family member at Osan Air Base, tested positive between Sept 2 and 4, during the contact-tracing process.

Two service members on a temporary duty to the USFK and one service member at Osan Air Base tested positive between Aug 31 and Sept 5, after offering a testing sample required for international travel.

One service member at the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys tested positive on Aug 31, after providing a screening sample prior to medical treatment.

The confirmed patients have been transferred to designated isolation facilities at the U.S. army bases and a South Korean medical facility.– NNN-YONHAP

The total number of infections among the USFK-affiliated personnel rose to 1,400, according to Yonhap news agency.

In the latest tally, South Korea reported 2,049 more cases of COVID-19 for the past 24 hours, lifting the total number of infections to 267,470. The daily caseload hovered above 1,000 for 65 straight days.
