SEOUL - The National Security Council (NSC) convened on Friday to deliberate on strengthening cybersecurity measures for defense contractors amidst rising concerns over hacking incidents targeting military technology. The meeting, led by Shin Yong-seok, the presidential secretary for cybersecurity, involved key representatives from various national security and defense sectors.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the session included officials from the state-run arms procurement agency, the national spy agency, the police, and the Defense Counterintelligence Command. This gathering followed recent reports highlighting alleged hacking attempts directed at local defense companies. During the discussions, strategies to bolster intelligence sharing and support for technological protection measures were explored, aiming to safeguard the cybersecurity of small and medium-sized defense contractors. Shin emphasized the critical importance of key defense technologies to national security and advocated for enhanced cooperation among agencies to address and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
