PM Emphasizes Need for Enhanced Exchanges with Japan

Seoul: Prime Minister Kim Min-seok stressed the significance of bolstering exchanges with Japan across both political and private sectors to further progress bilateral relations. This statement was made during a meeting with a Japanese delegation from the Korea-Japan cooperation committee, led by former Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation visited Seoul following their participation in a joint general meeting of the committee held on Jeju Island last week. During Monday's meeting, both Kim and Nakasone, who acts as the head of the committee, discussed the current positive momentum in bilateral ties and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to advance this relationship in a forward-thinking manner.

Kim highlighted the crucial role of exchanges between parliamentarians and private sectors from both countries, as well as between the governments of Seoul and Tokyo. He urged for collective wisdom to be harnessed in order to further develop relations between the two nations. Additionally, Kim requested Nakasone, who was instrumental in the election campaign for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, to facilitate smooth communication and cooperation between the current governments of South Korea and Japan.

Nakasone responded by expressing his commitment to aiding the advancement of bilateral relations. He underscored the importance of cooperation between South Korea, Japan, and the United States in addressing common challenges amid growing geopolitical tensions.
