SEOUL – President Yoon Suk Yeol has mandated an elevated emergency response posture in anticipation of severe rainfall across the country, particularly targeting the wider Seoul area.
According to Yonhap News Agency, In a statement released by presidential spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon, President Yoon issued these directives following briefings on the forecasted heavy concentrated rainfall. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo also took proactive steps, instructing relevant ministries and local governments to strengthen monitoring and evacuate residents from vulnerable areas, especially in sparsely populated mountainous regions.
The state weather agency reported heavy rainfall, with up to 103.5 millimeters per hour in parts of South Jeolla Province, and forecasts predict up to 70 mm per hour of rainfall in central regions starting late Tuesday. In response, Han has ordered officials to manage floodgates of dams as necessary and ensure real-time information sharing to mitigate potential damage to downstream areas.
