Seoul: The presidential office announced a reprimand for five senior presidential security officials due to their alleged involvement in a failed martial law attempt by former President Yoon Suk Yeol. These officials from the Presidential Security Service (PSS) have faced criticism for their actions that reportedly interfered with executing an arrest warrant for Yoon in early January. This warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into insurrection charges against the former president.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated that the PSS obstructed the execution of a court-authorized arrest warrant and search and seizure, which resulted in social conflict and confusion. The officials involved have been placed on standby as a consequence of their actions.
This decision follows the recent inauguration of President Lee Jae-myung, who assumed office last week. Kang highlighted that the PSS leadership not only refused to comply with lawful orders but also allegedly retaliated against officers who executed the arrest warrant. The disciplinary measures are seen as efforts to reorganize and normalize the PSS under the new administration led by President Lee Jae-myung.
