PYONGYANG - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has extended his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the people of Russia in light of the recent flooding in the southern part of the country, as reported by state media on Monday. The message of consolation was prompted by the floods that have severely impacted Russia's Orenburg region, leading to the declaration of a federal emergency and the evacuation of thousands of residents.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Jong-un conveyed his deep condolences on behalf of both the government and the people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), as well as personally. The message highlighted the significant material losses caused by the flooding and expressed a sincere hope for the swift recovery of the affected areas under President Putin's leadership. Kim stressed the solidarity of the DPRK with Russia during this challenging time.
The dispatch from KCNA also noted the increasing cooperation between North Korea and Russia across various sectors, a relationship that has been strengthening, especially following a rare summit between Kim and Putin in September. Additionally, it mentioned previous communications from Kim to Putin, including a congratulatory message for Putin's reelection and condolences for a tragic incident in Moscow earlier in the year.
