SEOUL—A Seoul court has rejected a bail request from Hur Young-in, chairman of the SPC Group, who is under trial for allegations of coercing employees to leave their labor union.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the bail was denied due to concerns that Hur might attempt to destroy evidence. The 74-year-old, who was arrested in April, faces charges related to pressuring approximately 570 union members of an SPC subsidiary to resign from their union during a period from early 2021 to mid-2022. The court's decision means Hur will likely remain in detention through October, adhering to the maximum six-month detention period permissible under the law for his ongoing trial.
