PARIS — South Korean table tennis star Shin Yu-bin finished fourth in the women's singles at the Paris Olympics after a hard-fought match against Japan's Hina Hayata. The competition took place on Saturday at the South Paris Arena 4, where Shin, ranked eighth globally, fell 4-2 in a six-game series during the bronze medal match.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Shin won the first game but could not maintain her lead against the world No. 5 Hayata, ultimately losing 4-2 (9-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7). This marks Shin’s fifth loss to Hayata in their head-to-head encounters. Shin, who previously won a mixed team bronze, was aiming to become the first South Korean, male or female, to win a singles table tennis medal since 2004. She will continue her quest for Olympic success in the women's team event starting Monday.
